Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses, including but not limited to Bipolar Disorder.

Music therapy is used for extensive healing even intensive care patients. Goal areas include, but are not limited to, motor skills, social/interpersonal development, cognitive development, self-awareness, and spiritual enhancement. Nowadays, music therapy is used to reduce stress and anxiety and helps the patient to learn stress management.

Music can help bring back confidence in one’s life, as well as improve their self esteem levels. It can give a person peace of mind and even cure certain diseases, although not always. The use of music for those with arthritis provides opportunity for pain relief, anxiety and stress reduction and positive changes in both mood and emotional state.

When the mind begins to calm and has a positive outlook on life, it is time to switch up the treatment. This is a sign the treatment is working. Music causes a soothing effects on its patients and helps them to reach in their inner-self.

Music therapy can cause soothing effects and can relax a person’s mind and body. It is for this reason that music therapy is adopted as a secondary treatment along with traditional treatment for a particular disease.

The benefits of music therapy include that of reduced stress, anxiety, and pain. It can even help to control high blood pressure and the heart rate. Music can help those suffering from cancer or Alzheimer’s disease. There is some evidence that when used along with conventional treatment, music therapy can help to reduce pain and relieve chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Some studies have found that music therapy can lower heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate.

Music therapy sessions use compact discs, speakers, headphones etc to treat patients. Taste of patient matters a lot in music therapy as well. It is said that not only the tone but lyrics matters a lot in healing a person.

Listening to positive lyrics can result in relaxing your mind and thinking positively but listening to negative lyrics can have opposite effect. It allows you to listen to your emotions and understand what you are feeling. Slow music is said to cause a soothing effect by reducing heart beat rate while opposite happens if you listen to fast music.

With low levels of serotonin in your body, you are likely to become depressed. When you become depressed, you will become stressed. Too much stress can lead to other problems, so it would be best to indulge in musical therapy which can help to increase your serotonin levels.

Music therapy is beneficial from many points of view. It heals your mind, body, and soul. It helps you to relax and soothes your feelings. Not only that, but it doesn’t hurt.

I am diagnosed with Bipolar 1, PTSD, and Clinically Depression, I truly believe in music. Without music i would even more depressed. I listen to a wide range of music. Listening to Christian inspired music helps me understand how much Jesus loves me and it gives me a positive out look on myself and the world. Secular music inspires me to reach those that are in pain and are ” lost “. I also plan to go to school to become a music therapist. Music can and will save us all from this dark world we live in.
